Turkey Reached $845M Worth of Cereal Exports
Istanbul Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds, and Products Exporters’ Association announced the export figures for July. The Turkish cereals sector continued its upward momentum in exports. Accordingly, IHBIR’s July exports increased by 22.40% to $181.5M compared to July last year.
Turkey’s exports of the cereals sector in July reached $844.9M with an increase of 31.6% compared to the same month of the previous year. Furthermore, Turkey’s exports in the January-July period reached $6,2B with an increase of 31.4%. In July, the top three export destinations of the cereals sector were Iraq, the USA, and Algeria, respectively. The top three export destinations of IHBIR in July were the USA, Yemen, and Iraq, respectively.
Since the 5th month of 2021, Turkey has been steadily growing its cereals exports. Turkey’s cereals exports have been rising impressively, despite many events around the world that could have a negative impact on exports. This is attracting the attention of other countries, which are looking for lasting cooperation with Turkey.
$13B Target in Cereals Exports by the End of the Year
Cereals exports, which amounted to 6.2 percent in January-July, are expected to reach 13 billion dollars by the end of the year. Cereal exports continued to rise after July. In the first nine months of the year, cereal exports reached 8.9 billion. Turkey’s export expectations for the sector are quite high. One of the most important factors in this is Turkey’s ability to produce immediate solutions to the sector’s problems. Turkey continues to work at full speed to reach its export targets and make them more value-added.
The good January-July period for grain exports also affected the coming months. Turkey’s cereals exports increased by 28.9 percent in the first nine months of the year. The confidence brought by the January-July period is of great importance in this. In September 2022, Turkey’s cereals sector exports increased by 20.5 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to 1 billion dollars.
30% Growth Every Year
From 2021 to 2022, the cereals sector grew by 32 percent. When we evaluate 2022 as of the ninth month, 28 percent growth was shown compared to the same period last year. When the average of the last 2 years is taken, we see a cereals sector that grows by 30 percent every year.
3.3 Million Tons of Cereals and Pulses were Exported to 169 Countries
Southeast Anatolia made great progress in the first 9 months of the year, contributing significantly to grain and pulses exports. The cereals, pulses, oilseeds, and products sector in Southeastern Anatolia, where high-quality and delicious agricultural products are grown due to its climate and soil conditions, sent products to 169 countries in 9 months of the year.
Exporters in the region earned $2,5B in return for 3,3 tons of products sent abroad in 9 months. The main source of income in Southeast Anatolia is pasta. In the first 9 months, $490M was obtained from the export of this product. Products from the region attract attention in terms of quality and taste. Exporters continue to produce with this mission. The region’s exports in 9 months increased by 25.6 percent compared to the same period last year. The success of exporters is also reflected in the figures. Work and projects continue to increase the success of the sector in the region
Increase in Exports to Latin America
In the January-September period, exports to Latin America countries amounted to 3 billion 878 million 716 thousand dollars with an increase of 3.4 percent compared to the same period last year. In this period, Turkey made the most exports among Latin America countries to Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Chile, Dominican Republic, Peru, Venezuela, and Colombia, respectively. Exports to Mexico increased by 36.7 percent in this period compared to the same period last year. It rose from 542 million 854 thousand dollars to 741 million 932 thousand dollars. Exports to Brazil were 673 million 584 thousand dollars, while exports to Chile were 381 million 741 thousand dollars.
Especially the political relations between Venezuela and Turkey have positive effects on trade. With each passing day, the momentum of Turkish products is accelerating in South America. For this reason, Turkish producers are also concentrating more on this region. There is more participation in trade organizations. Therefore, exports to Latin America continue to grow.
